Explorco, the upstream exploration subsidiary of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has intensified stakeholder engagement ahead of its upcoming onshore drilling activities under the Voltaian Basin Project.
The engagements form part of preparations to transition from exploration studies into active field operations.
A high-level delegation from the company held meetings in Tamale and Yendi, engaging traditional leaders and regulatory agencies on project readiness and operational requirements.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, the team said the visit was used to brief the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II, at the Gbewaa Palace on progress made and next steps.
The delegation also focused on securing collaboration with key state institutions, including the Lands Commission and Minerals Commission, to streamline land access processes and support logistical planning for drilling activities.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, the Deputy Managing Director for Technical at Explorco, Abdul-Mumin Abukari Iddris, said the company is committed to ensuring inclusive stakeholder participation in the project.
“Our presence in Yendi ensures that traditional authorities and regulatory bodies are fully aligned with our roadmap,” the statement quoted him as saying.
He further emphasised that the project is being designed to balance national energy goals with local development priorities.
“By integrating local expertise and ensuring transparent land acquisition, we are building a project that benefits both the national economy and the local community,” he added.
Explorco indicated that a dedicated Project Management Team has been mobilised to oversee the next phase of operations, including field mobilisation and equipment deployment.
Meanwhile, the Voltaian Basin Project is Ghana’s flagship onshore petroleum frontier initiative.
It forms part of a broader national strategy to diversify hydrocarbon exploration beyond offshore fields.
The project is expected to stimulate economic activity in northern Ghana through job creation, local procurement opportunities, and infrastructure development.
