NDC's words in opposition hunting them amid recent dumsor — NPP's Lawuratu 

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national communications team, Lawuratu Musah-Saaka, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over the ongoing power outages.

She says past comments by some senior members in the current administration while in opposition, are now catching up with the party.

Her remarks come as the country continues to experience intermittent electricity supply over the past two weeks, affecting homes, businesses and essential services.

The outages were initially attributed to transformer upgrade works by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), but were later worsened by a fire outbreak at the GRIDCo Akosombo Substation, which reportedly led to a loss of about 1,000 megawatts from the national grid.

Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show on Tuesday, April 28, Ms. Musah-Saaka recalled statements made by current government officials while in opposition, questioning their current stance.

“You heard the likes of the current Energy Minister questioning why lights were going off at night… today, are they not going off at night?” she asked.

She also raised concerns about the continued outages despite the introduction of the GHS1 per litre energy sector levy.

“What is happening to the one cedi per litre we are paying, and we are still having dumsor?” she questioned.

According to her, the government has provided multiple explanations for the outages over time, including transformer faults, gas supply challenges and other technical issues.

She argued that these shifting reasons have created doubts about the real cause of the crisis and the level of transparency from authorities.

The NPP communicator further called for accountability in the management of the energy sector, particularly regarding funds collected under the levy.
