The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opened nominations for its nationwide branch elections, launching a major internal exercise aimed at reorganising and strengthening its grassroots structures across the country.
In a statement signed by the Deputy General Secretary in charge of Finance and Administration, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, the party announced that nominations will run from May 2 to May 16, 2026, covering all branches nationwide.
The elections will span 40,647 branches across the party’s 276 constituencies, forming a key part of its broader restructuring agenda ahead of future political engagements.
According to the statement, nomination forms will be made available online from May 2 and can be accessed individually or in bulk via the party’s official platform. Each form will cost GHS 20.00. Members are also required to be financially up to date, with dues payable through approved channels, including a shortcode system and the party’s website.
Branch elections are scheduled to take place between May 20 and June 30, 2026. The party has urged members to participate with discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
The NDC also outlined strict eligibility and resignation requirements for members holding public office who intend to contest in the elections. These include Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State, Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors and their deputies, as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
Affected officials are required to resign by April 30, May 14, or June 7, 2026, depending on the level of the election they are contesting. The party explained that the staggered deadlines are designed to align with its internal electoral guidelines.
The directive, the NDC noted, is based on approvals from its National Executive Committee and is intended to safeguard fairness and the integrity of the process.
The party has called on all members to take part actively while upholding its values of unity, fairness, and discipline throughout the exercise.
