Leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Janet Asana Nabla, has claimed that former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo showed visible signs of frustration and emotional strain during his tenure.
Her comments follow the decision by the Ghana Football Association to part ways with Otto Addo after poor performances in recent international friendlies against Austria and Germany.
Some critics have questioned the decision to reappoint Addo after his earlier stint, arguing that the team’s struggles point to deeper structural and technical challenges.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyPrime on Tuesday, March 31, Nabla said the coach appeared to have deteriorated physically and emotionally due to pressure.
“Before the man came into the country, he looked so fresh, so handsome but now you can see the mark of frustration and depression from Ghanaians,” she said.
She further cautioned against appointing individuals who may not be adequately prepared for such high-pressure roles.
According to the politician and former presidential aspirant, the appointing authority that brought Otto Addo back after his disappointing 2022 World Cup run must be held liable.
“When you look at his coaching style, I think that the one who brought him back should be held liable,” she noted.
Nabla also questioned the Black Stars’ readiness for future competitions, particularly the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
She cautioned against committing resources to a team she believes is not competitive enough.
According to her, Ghana may waste both time and public funds if urgent reforms are not made to improve the team’s performance.
