General Mamady Doumbouya, the president of the Republic of Guinea, has not been seen in Guinea or in official state activities for more than two weeks a situation that has ignited widespread speculation, concern and conflicting reports.
Last Known Movement
Doumbouya left Guinea on 13 February 2026 to attend an African Union (AU) summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Since then, he has not returned to Conakry as expected, and no official public itinerary has been released detailing his exact whereabouts.
Despite attending the AU event, his continued absence beyond a short diplomatic trip with little public explanation has fueled rumors and uncertainty.
Official Government Statements
Guinean authorities have responded to the silence by trying to reassure the public:
Presidential advisers insist Doumbouya is “in good health” and that there is “absolutely no reason to give in to worry or speculation.”
They say he has taken a few days of rest and a routine medical check-up, though they have not confirmed his exact location.
The government has promised he will return to Guinea “in the next few days,” but has not offered firm dates.
Even the Guinean Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, has reiterated in media interviews that Doumbouya is doing well and remains informed about national affairs, but still declined to specify where he currently is.
Public Reaction and Speculation
In the absence of confirmed updates, rumors have spread on social media and alternative news sites, some claiming he might be receiving medical treatment abroad or visiting another country such as France, though these details remain unverified and speculative.
Unofficial outlets have even circulated more extreme theories about his health including claims of poisoning or serious illness but none has been confirmed by official sources.
Why the Silence Matters
This prolonged absence is particularly striking because:
Presidents normally return from official travel after a few days, especially in countries where political stability is a sensitive issue.
Doumbouya’s public appearances have already been relatively rare in recent months, even during the 2025 presidential campaign and after his inauguration.
Guinea has seen crackdowns on political opposition and media freedoms in recent years, leading to heightened public scrutiny and mistrust when leaders are out of public view.
What’s Next?
For now, the government’s official position remains that Doumbouya is alive, well and will return soon, but no independent confirmation of his current location has been made public. Analysts and citizens alike are watching closely for his next concrete public appearance or statement.
