A coalition of youth and residents from the Builsa North and Builsa South constituencies has formally petitioned the President of the Republic of Ghana over the worsening state of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Gbedema–Fumbisi–Wiesi road corridor.
In a statement addressed to the Presidency, the petitioners described the stretch as a critical lifeline connecting major communities such as Sandema, Wiaga, Fumbisi, and Wiesi. They emphasized that the road supports agricultural trade, facilitates access to healthcare and education, and enables the smooth movement of people and goods across the area.
According to the petition, the road project was awarded in 2016 but remains largely incomplete nearly a decade later. Residents argue that the continued deterioration has imposed severe economic and social hardships on communities that rely on the corridor for daily activities.
Among the challenges highlighted are rising transportation costs, mobility difficulties, delays in emergency response, and increased safety risks for commuters. The petition further notes that local businesses and farming activities have been disrupted, especially during the rainy season when portions of the road become nearly impassable.
The group is calling for a comprehensive review of the project’s contractual and financial status, an investigation into the causes of the prolonged delay, and decisive government action to ensure its completion. They also urged authorities to strengthen oversight and accountability mechanisms to prevent similar setbacks in future infrastructure projects.
The petitioners reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful civic engagement and expressed confidence that the government will respond within a reasonable timeframe to address what they describe as an urgent development concern.
The statement was collectively signed by “Concerned Youth and Residents” of the two constituencies, who pledged continued cooperation with state institutions as they pursue a resolution through democratic means.
