The current location of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), remains unknown, raising serious concerns over transparency and due process.
His lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, expressed alarm on Metro TV after Mr. Nkansah was moved from one location to another by officers of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) without any explanation of his destination.
The former NEIP boss had earlier been subject to a search of his residence on Tuesday, part of ongoing investigations into allegations that government-sponsored overseas scholarships were being sold to applicants. The probe, ordered by President John Dramani Mahama, was prompted by mounting public concerns about the alleged misconduct in the scholarship scheme.
After the hours-long search, Mr. Nkansah was reportedly escorted back to NIB offices. However, according to his lawyer, the situation escalated when three pickup trucks carrying heavily armed officers arrived to transport him to an undisclosed location. The legal team was not informed of the destination or the purpose of the move.
“They told us they are taking him to another place, but no one has told us where that is,” Awuah explained. “They are traveling in a convoy of three pickups, and now, they have left the NIB office with my client. As his lawyer, I have no knowledge of where he is, and no answers have been given regarding his safety or his legal rights.”
The unexplained relocation has sparked widespread concern and speculation. Despite repeated inquiries, the NIB has remained silent on Mr. Nkansah’s status, further fueling public unease about the handling of the investigation.
The ongoing probe centers on allegations that scholarships funded by the government, intended for qualified students, were instead being sold for personal gain, casting a shadow over the integrity of the scheme and prompting calls for accountability.
