Born Chen Rui around 1982 in Chongqing, China is a social media sensation known worldwide for his near-spot-on impersonation of U.S. President Donald Trump. His unique blend of exaggerated Trump mannerisms, confident English delivery, and cultural humor has made him a global internet figure, from China to the United States.
From Chongqing to Worldwide Fame
Chen’s rise began in 2024 when, on a dare from a friend, he posted a video mimicking Trump’s distinctive style complete with sweeping hand gestures and booming catchphrases on Chinese platforms such as Douyin and later Instagram and TikTok.
Despite being 42 years old and never having visited the United States at the time, he developed his English skills by watching American TV shows like Friends and The Big Bang Theory, and by studying Trump’s speeches and public appearances.
Within months, his videos went viral, attracting millions of views and creating a large international following. Audiences were impressed not just by his vocal mimicry but by how effortlessly he captured Trump’s rhetorical rhythm and iconic gestures.
CNN Interview: Ambitions and Dreams
In October 2025, CNN featured Chen in a segment filmed in his hometown of Chongqing. During this interview, he spoke candidly about his motivations and aspirations. Chen explained that he sees his act as entertainment and a means to connect cultures, not as political commentary.
When asked about America a place he had never visited at that time Chen shared his heartfelt dream of travelling there someday. He told CNN that he wanted to go to the United States, to see its cities and people firsthand. According to the CNN segment, he mentioned looking forward to visiting places from Oklahoma to New York City, showing his curiosity about American life across the country.
His light-hearted, enthusiastic tone captured the surreal nature of his fame: a man thousands of miles from the U.S., acting as an impersonator of one of its most famous political figures, yet connecting with international audiences in humorous, apolitical ways.
A Comedic Bridge Between Cultures
Chen has described his goal as being a kind of “comedic ambassador” someone who can use humor to bridge cultural gaps between China and the rest of the world. In the CNN interview, he said he hoped his content could help outsiders see “what real China is” and introduce Chinese culture with warmth and laughter.
This unusual global fame has also brought him opportunities. By early 2026, he obtained a U.S. visa for the first time and began touring parts of America a dream he had spoken about in earlier interviews. His social media continued to document experiences abroad, often in character, engaging with fans and exploring American cities.
Why His Story Resonates
Ryan Chen’s journey is more than a gimmick. It shows how digital culture can create unlikely ambassadors: people who, without formal training or international travel, use creativity and humor to connect disparate worlds. His choice to stay away from political commentary also allows his videos to be enjoyed broadly, making laughter rather than controversy his common ground.
Whether he’s describing hotpot in Trump’s cadence or talking about his wish to visit America, Chen’s story is a reminder that in today’s connected world, cultural exchange can start with something as simple as a laugh even if the person making others laugh has never stepped foot in the place they’re impersonating.
