Ghanaian media presenter King Fantastic, host of Ghana Citizen TV, has issued a strong message to President John Dramani Mahama. According to him, if by the end of 2026 the administration has not jailed a single corrupt politician, despite the numerous individuals implicated in major corruption scandals, then the president should forget any past achievements, because Ghanaians will no longer consider them meaningful.
Speaking with King Fantastic, his frustration and disappointment were unmistakable. He explained that he has dedicated his life to projecting the current administration as the wise and visionary leadership Ghana needs. Yet, despite the many corrupt politicians listed under the ORAL initiative and others under investigation, not one person has been jailed.
The presenter emphasized that the impact of corruption under the previous NPP government was devastating. Large sums of public money were allegedly transferred into private accounts, and under the party’s own “Agyapadie” policy, state resources, both financial and properties, were looted. Many public institutions were left bankrupt, and the economy, businesses, and investments suffered severe collapse.
ORAL, launched in December 2024 as a flagship anti‑corruption program under President‑elect Mahama, was designed to aggressively pursue stolen public funds and state assets. One of its most striking early achievements was the identification of over $21.19 billion in suspected looted funds and undervalued state properties, uncovered by the ORAL Preparatory Committee.
This discovery positioned ORAL as one of the most ambitious recovery efforts in Ghana’s history. Beyond identifying stolen resources, the initiative aims to retrieve funds and properties for national development. Its mandate includes scrutinizing corruption cases, recovering misappropriated assets, and enforcing accountability across public institutions.
February 10, 2025, marked the formal transfer of ORAL’s investigative findings to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for prosecution. When President Mahama received the Operation Recover All Loots report and immediately instructed the Attorney General to begin investigations, many Ghanaians celebrated, believing justice for corrupt politicians was finally on the horizon.
However, since the files were handed over, no politician has been found guilty or imprisoned, despite the scale of the alleged corruption and multiple press briefings. King Fantastic questions how, with nearly three hundred corruption cases reportedly under review, not a single conviction has been secured. He wonders what guarantee exists that anyone will ever be held accountable.
As a news presenter deeply connected to the public, King Fantastic says he is constantly bombarded with questions about when the NDC government will jail corrupt politicians. What troubles him is not the pressure from viewers but the fear that the NDC may fail him and the Ghanaian people.
He therefore urges President Mahama to honor the promise made to voters. Having assured the nation that corrupt politicians would be brought to justice, the president must now act. King Fantastic insists that accountability be delivered, and delivered swiftly, because, in his view, the prison sentences are long overdue.
