Serial Killer Yet To Be Found But Serial Liar Unmasked

25 SEP 2007 LISTEN
By Fifi Kwetey

As David Asante Apeatu Is caught Lying Again

Former CID Boss, David Asante Apeatu must be in a mighty hurry to leave town and take up his new job with Interpol before his citadel of lies and perfidy comes crashing down before his eyes.

The man, whom sources within the Police Administration, maintain was mysteriously promoted three times not long after a vital role he played in investigations into the killing of the Ya Na in 2002, is in all kinds of troubles at the moment.

His former boss, Mr. Peter Nanfuri had already refuted two crucial claims he had made in relation to the arrest of Charles Quansah.

The former police boss has categorically refuted claims of David Asante Apeatu that Charles Quansah was busted in May 2001 with the collaboration of the FBI.

Speaking on the Joy Super morning show last Monday, Mr Nanfuri was emphatic that Charles Quansah was arrested and brought to his office to be questioned before the Kufuor led government took over.

The former IGP also denounced as false, claims by David Asante Apeatu that the American Federal Bureau of Investigations had a hand in the arrest of Charles Quansah.

The Lens has it on authority that Mr Peter Nanfuri's statement has been fully corroborated by the man who was in charge of the Police CID at the time of the arrest of Charles Quansah in the year 2000. An unimpeachable source close to former Commisioner of CID, Aboah, has told The Lens that there is not a shred of doubt about the fact that Charles Quansah was arrested in the year 2000.

“The arrest was effected under the instructions of Commissioner Aboah; And he together with Mr Nanfuri questioned Charles Quansah in the year 2000,” the source stated unequivocally.

“At that time, Chief Superintendent David Asante Apeatu was working in the Police Crime laboratory and even though played a part in the investigations, was not involved in the arrest of Quansah,” the source affirmed.

If that is the reality, why then is David Asante Apeatu lying? Why is he also deliberately bringing up the collaboration of the FBI in the arrest of Charles Quansah?

The former IGP must have been making reference to these serious lies when he stated the following in a recent interview with The Enquirer newspaper: “It is about time we start speaking the truth in this country. The truth is the truth, no matter the time or place it is spoken.”

That great piece of advice must have fallen on deaf ears because last Wednesday, the former CID boss, David Asante Apeatu lied again.

Speaking on Radio Gold's paper review, he vigorously denied having ever set foot in the office of the former President before the famous interrogation of President Rawlings by a team of police gurus led by him. Every attempt by Mr Victor Smith to remind him of that earlier meeting and of discussions they had held at the time was flatly denied.

But David Asante Apeatu was clearly lying once more because there were witnesses that saw him in that office and one of those is this reporter.

The question then is: “why is this man serially lying to the people of Ghana? What is he covering up?”

By the way, this same gentleman demonstrated his perfidy by breaking a gentleman's agreement he had with the office of President Rawlings at the time of that interrogation in 2003. Even though an agreement was reached that the video recording of the session was not going to be leaked to the media ahead of an official release, within hours of the meeting, members of the Labone Coffee shop Mafia had already viewed it.

The ballistic expert, whose quick promotion to the position of CID boss a few years back raised serious concerns about the new heights the Kufuor regime was taking the issue of the politicization of the police administration, shocked listeners of Joy Fm last Wednesday, by categorically declaring that there was no need to prove beyond doubt in court that Charles Quansah had indeed murdered all the women once the court had convicted him for killing at least one of them.

Incredible!

Even by the estimation of the Police, Charles could at most have been responsible for the death of 8 women. Assuming without admitting that this was true, what then does Asante Apeatu say about the remaining 26 victims? So how can he so categorically pronounce that Charles Quansah is the serial killer?

This logic is tantamount to stating that once a man has been convicted of stealing a car, responsibility for all stolen cars must be placed at his doorstep even though not a shred of evidence has been advanced to establish that position.

Whichever way one looks at it, one thing which sticks out is the fact that David Asante Apeatu is really desperate to close this case by telling everyone that Charles Quansah is the serial killer.

However, the facts contradict that line of thinking. The nation is still not sure who the serial killer(s) is (are).

This is what the former IGP, Peter Nanfuri had to say about the closure of that case: “The matter is not closed. There are still leads that could be followed to unravel the mystery surrounding the killing of the 34 women….If only the police investigators would do their work with diligence, honesty and dedication.”

There is still doubt about who the serial killer is but there is certainly no doubt, who is fast establishing himself to be a serial liar.
