The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), Kofi Asare, has urged parents not to rebuke their children over what they may consider poor Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
He explained that education is not only about the grades students obtain but also about building confidence and values in young people.
In a social media post on Monday, August 25, Mr. Asare encouraged parents to support their children instead of condemning them.
“Don’t rebuke your ward for getting an aggregate 20. Education is more than BECE grades; also about nurturing confidence and values. Encourage, don’t condemn. Grades don’t define destiny!” he wrote.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2025 BECE for School Candidates on Saturday, August 23.
A total of 603,328 candidates, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools, sat for the examination.
WAEC disclosed that the subject results of 718 candidates and entire results of 177 candidates have been cancelled.
Also, subject results of 1,240 candidates and entire results of 93 candidates were withheld.
This brings the total number of cancelled results to 895 and withheld results to 1,333.
The Council further noted that subject results from 119 schools were cancelled, while results from 87 schools remain under investigation.

The marking scheme for JHS should be different from SHS. BECE is the first ever external so the marking scheme should be moderate. My opinion
