The National House of Chiefs has gazetted Abednego Tawia Gblie Osroagbo of Old Ningo as the Paramount Chief of the Ningo Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region after the stool had remained vacant for twenty years.

The stool became vacant after the demise of the former Paramount Chief of the area, Samuel Narh Osroagbo, in September 2005, which necessitated the installation of a new Paramount Chief to oversee the traditional and customs affairs of the Great Ningo enclave.

However, following Samuel Narh Osroagbo's demise, the installation of a new Paramount Chief faced prolonged litigation that began at the Regional House of Chiefs, advanced to the National House of Chiefs, and concluded at the Supreme Court with a judgment on 22nd November 2024.

For most of the past 20 years, Nene Kanor Attiapah III of blessed memory, the Mankralo of Ningo, served as the Acting Mantse (Paramount Chief) of Ningo and Acting President of the Ningo Traditional Council.

After the Supreme Court ruling late last year, the National House of Chiefs, on March 28, 2015, in Accra, endorsed 56-year-old Abednego Tawia Gblie Osroagbo as the new Paramount Chief of the Ningo Traditional Area, granting him the stool title Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII.

On April 3, 2025, chiefs and elders of the Ningo Traditional Area took swift action to install Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII during a ceremony held at the Ningo Traditional Council in Old Ningo.

Addressing the chiefs, elders, and community members, Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII lamented the litigation that delayed the installation of a new Paramount Chief for twenty years, noting that it has strengthened unity among the natives.

“The history of Ningo has been full of ups and downs. We have experienced phases where disunity and lack of cooperation hindered our progress and development. Yet, there have also been times of unity and growth when an atmosphere of peace prevailed,” Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII stated.

He lamented that the delay in gazetting the Paramount Chief hindered development in communities under the Ningo Traditional Area and pledged to revive business in the area through his leadership.

He emphasized that his leadership would seek government assistance to secure machines and chemicals to promote mechanized and large-scale farming, aiming to alleviate food shortages and post-harvest losses.

According to him, Ningo is among communities endowed with business opportunities; however, their economic development is hindered by the lack of paved roads. He pledged to urge the government to construct roads in the area.

He added that cleanliness is essential for maintaining the health of residents and vowed to ensure that communities are regularly cleaned to prevent health-related diseases caused by dirt.

Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII expressed gratitude to the chiefs and elders for their steadfast support in achieving this milestone and appealed for unity to foster the peace that has eluded Great Ningo for years.
