The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the termination of appointments and recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff who have yet to be placed on payroll.
A letter signed by the Acting Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, instructed all regional directors to enforce the directive.
“With reference No. SCR/DA/85/85/01/A on the above subject matter from the Office of the President, I wish to inform you that all recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff who have not been placed on the payroll yet have been revoked with immediate effect in accordance with the Chief of Staff’s directive.
“All regional and district/municipal/metropolitan directors are to ensure that this directive is strictly adhered to. You will be notified of any further directive concerning this issue as and when necessary,” the letter stated in part.
This comes after Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, in a statement issued on Tuesday, February 11, directed all heads of government institutions to annul such appointments, citing non-compliance with established good governance practices and principles.
The statement instructed: “Heads of government institutions… to take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments and submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to this office by February 17, 2025.”
Amid backlash, Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu clarified that the affected appointments were fraught with irregularities, as some were made to bypass interviews and other proper procedures.
