President John Dramani Mahama has named Mr. Eric Adjei as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), succeeding Kofi Ofosu Nkansah in the position.
Mr. Adjei previously served as the Deputy Spokesperson for Vice Presidential Candidate Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang during the 2024 general election.
Reacting to his appointment on Facebook, he expressed his dedication to grassroots development, writing, “My appointment is for the grassroots.”
The NEIP, originally known as the Youth Enterprise Support (YES), was established in August 2014 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to support young entrepreneurs and empower the youth in business. Its primary goal was to provide resources and opportunities for sustainable economic growth through entrepreneurship.
In 2017, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo restructured and rebranded the initiative, renaming it the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme. This new phase expanded the program’s scope, focusing on providing technical support and business advisory services for start-ups, micro, and small businesses. It also introduced comprehensive training, incubation, and mentorship opportunities for early-stage enterprises.
Mr. Adjei’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, with particular attention to uplifting grassroots businesses and driving economic progress through youth empowerment.
