President John Dramani Mahama has appointed former Member of Parliament for Damongo, Adam Mutawakilu, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
This was contained in a letter dated January 22, 2025, and signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President.
Adam Mutawakilu has been directed to confirm his acceptance of the appointment within 14 days.
“I write to formally inform you that the President of the Republic, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution, has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Water Company Limited pending receipt of the Constitutionally required advice of the governing Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission,” the letter stated in part.
“Your appointment takes effect from 22nd January 2025. Kindly indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within fourteen (14) days of receipt of this letter,” it added.

The Ghana Water Company Limited was established on July 1, 1999, following the conversion of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation into a state-owned limited liability company under the Statutory Corporations (Conversion to Companies) Act 461 of 1993, as amended by LI 1648.
The company is responsible for the production, transmission, and distribution of water in urban areas in Ghana.
As of June 2024, GWCL manages and operates 84 water systems, comprising 61 surface water systems and 23 groundwater systems.
