The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) has issued a directive to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to allow staff to work remotely in the wake of post-election violence.
This comes after reports of vandalism at several MMDAs by alleged NDC supporters following the announcement of results from the just-ended general elections.
In a statement dated December 10, the Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, highlighted the safety of staff as a top priority.
“Information reaching the OHLGS indicates that many MMDAs have been vandalized following the announcement of the just-ended General Election results,” the statement read in part.
“If there is any indication that lives and properties are at risk, you should temporarily close the offices and allow all staff members to work remotely until the situation stabilizes,” Dr. Arthur advised.
The directive also called on MMDAs to maintain regular communication with law enforcement agencies to ensure adequate security measures are in place.
“We urge you to maintain close communication with your MMDAs to receive updates on any developments and advise them to keep regular contact with law enforcement agencies to provide the needed security support to protect the offices where necessary,” the statement urged all Regional Ministers and Regional Coordinating Councils.
Dr. Arthur emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “This precautionary measure is intended to safeguard our staff from potential harm and provide them with peace of mind during this unsettling period.”
