Election 2024: First-time voters express readiness ahead of December 7 polls

Some first-time voters in the Keta constituency of the Volta Region have expressed readiness ahead of 2024 general election.

The young voters said that it was an exciting moment ahead for Ghana as the 2024 general election approaches whilst others were very eager to exercise their democratic rights and have their voices heard.

Ms Dziedzorm Kekeli Setor, a first time voter at Abor in the keta constituency, in an interview with Ghana News Agency, said that it was a great achievement to exercise his franchise to take an active interest in the democratic process.

“Our participation in the upcoming December 7, election is crucial in shaping the country’s future. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a peaceful and successful election. I am poised to vote wisely for progressive development,” she stated.

Ms Setor said that some major factors, which include education, healthcare, infrastructure development, education, sports, agriculture, and economic development, among others would influence their choice and decision in the election.

Benjamin Korkorti, a Senior high school graduate at Keta, also told the GNA that various campaign promises from political party flagbearers that would resonate with their concerns and aspirations would be welcomed.

He said that “l would like to see a tangible improvement in the economic well-being, and a candidate who can convincingly articulate a plan very well for our economic growth will likely gain my traction.”

Meanwhile, a critical study on the ground by GNA indicated that other factors which include social media, party affiliation, campaign messages, honesty, and character of candidates, among others would further influence the choice of voters.

A total of 53,131 eligible voters in Keta constituency would choose among four parliamentary candidates, which include Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, the incumbent NDC parliamentary candidate, who was seeking for second term, Mr Hope Courage Goldberg-Grimm Lekettey of NPP, Mr Yayra Kwaku Kwashie of LPG and Mr Stanley Courage Dugah, an independent candidate.

With less than two weeks to the general election, GNA has observed that various political parties in the area have intensified their campaign strategies to capture the attention and vote of the voters.

Some party supporters of GNA were optimistic that their various political parties would win the election and called for peaceful, transparent, and fair election.

They appealed to all to preach peace before, during and after the election for progress and development.
