A senior police officer has threatened legal action against the Ghana Police Service over what he describes as unfair promotion that saw junior officers jump over their seniors.
ACP Ayamga Yakubu Akolgo, who is currently stationed at the Police Headquarters in Accra, expressed his intention to sue the police administration in a notice to the Attorney General.
In the notice, ACP Akolgo complained that the recent promotions in the service were not based on established criteria such as examinations, performance assessments and seniority as required by law.
He alleged the impugned promotions of juniors over seniors were "patently unjust, unfair, unconstitutional, discriminatory, unlawful and a clear denial of fair opportunity."
"The recent promotions in the service are not based on examination, transparent performance indicators of merit and competence, seniority and fair special recommendation," ACP Akolgo stated in the notice seen by this portal.
"As a victim of the maladministration and impropriety, I decided to seek redress before a court pursuant to Article 23 of the Constitution and other enabling statutes," he added.
The police officer said he would pray the court to declare the promotions in question as unlawful and in breach of due process. He is also seeking appropriate redress.
