At his farewell ceremony on August 2, 2024, DDP Raphael Kwasi Tuekpe, the outgoing Volta and Oti Regional Commander of Prisons, called on officers to commit themselves to improving the Ghana Prisons Service.
In his speech, DDP Tuekpe emphasized the importance of taking ownership of the service and working diligently towards its development.
Born on January 31, 1965, in Accra, DDP Tuekpe joined the Junior Officer Corps on August 6, 1992, and steadily climbed the ranks, becoming Deputy Director of Prisons on January 1, 2021. His career has been marked by dedication, passion, and mentorship, earning him respect among his peers and superiors.
DDP Tuekpe has served in several prisons, including Navrongo Central Prison, Wa Central Prison, and James Camp Prison. He is known for initiating and implementing various progressive programs and projects, such as office renovations, laboratory constructions, and borehole rehabilitations, which have significantly improved conditions for inmates and officers.
He oversaw the construction of the Kenyansi Camp Prison, Awutu Camp Prison Barracks, and Osamkrom Camp Prison Barracks, as well as major renovation projects. He also designed and constructed accommodation facilities and extended perimeter fence walls. Additionally, he exceeded farm production targets, built ablution facilities, and garnered support for various initiatives, showcasing his dedication to the service.
Colleagues describe DDP Tuekpe as a skilled communicator, a source of motivation, and a professional Corrections Officer who approaches issues with a focus on human rights and professionalism.
