On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was handed the audit report by KPMG, which he had commissioned to investigate the contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
According to Mr. Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, President Akufo-Addo is currently reviewing the findings of the audit report. He assured the Ghanaian people that the President will communicate his decisions regarding the matter in due course.
The decision to commission the audit by KPMG was made on January 2, 2024, following concerns raised about the contracts between GRA and SML. Consequently, President Akufo-Addo instructed the Ministry of Finance and GRA to halt the execution of the contracts until the audit report was completed, including any pending payments stipulated in the agreements.
Akufo-Addo's directive to suspend the SML-GRA contract and initiate an audit by KPMG reflects his administration's commitment to transparency and accountability in public procurement processes.
