The National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) Mistress, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufman, has attributed Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon)'s dominance in the competition to their early preparation and focus on quiz activities.
In an interview with Starr FM, Prof Kaufman stated that the students who attend the school mostly start their preparation at the Junior High School level.
"It seems as if their contestants are preparing even before they get to the school. So a young JHS student is watching this program and they decide they are going to go to this school,” she told Bola Ray, the interviewer.
According to her, other schools wait till the competition is very close before they choose their contestants who are mostly final year students preparing for WASSCE.
"Compare this to a girl school who is picking their contestants after mock, in final year, are they on the same field,” she noted.
The professor emphasized PRESEC's established structures for NSMQ preparation.
“So there are structures at Presec right now, I'm sure they have several different teams and they didn't start this just yesterday, they have their first year team.
"A lot of them went to Presec they wanted to be on the team so I'm sure they have a lot of first year teams. And other schools are singing and dancing, people are doing quiz programmes in the school,” she posited.
PRESEC-Legon emerged victorious at the 2023 NSMQ competition, earning their eighth win.
