The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Jeoun VIP transport Services Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo has revealed that the company will soon roll out an online ticketing and payment system for its customers to improve their services.
To this end, he said the company was in collaboration with Cal Bank to use digitalized systems to enable passengers buy tickets, pay and even book their preferred seats online.
Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo made the revelation at the opening of a new bus terminal at the JEOUN VIP Transport Service on Thursday in Tamale.
He noted that the online ticketing will come with an App and USSD code to enable customers acquire tickets at their comfort zone.
"VIP JEOUN in the second decade intends to grow innovatively by using technology to create wealth. In that regard, Directors have resolved to partner with our longtime bankers; Cal Bank, to develop digital solutions that can add value to our operations and also enhance the customer experience. VIP also announces for the information of the general public that coming up soon, you can book and buy VIP tickets online," he told this reporter.
He added that the commissioning of the Tamale Terminal forms part of the company's plans to open its offices in all regional capitals across the country.
Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo further revealed that within the last 18 months, the company has added 100 new buses to its fleet, making it the largest transporter in Ghana with over 700 buses.
He noted that the company was in a process of expanding its services to other parts of the North such as WaleWale, Nalerigu, Bunkprugu, Damongo, Nandom and Hamile including some parts of the middle belt to make transportation accessible for people within those areas
"In line with that objectives, VIP proposes to expand and extend our services to Walewale, Nalerigu, Bunkprugu, Damongo, Nandomband Hamile. Moreover, to make transportation accessible to all in the Northern Regions, VIP again intends to open routes to Obuasi, Sefwi, Techiman, Sunyani, Dunkwa, Takoradi, Mim, Goaso, and Sankore all in the middle belt of the country. This we believe will make it easier for the people of the North to travel with ease and comfort," Mr. Ampofo stressed.
He observed with worries that many buses, especially those plying the Northern Regions highways, are using the inscription VIP, but do not belong to the company.
He appealed to the Ghana Police Service to arrest and prosecute perpetrators since it is a breach of the trademark Act under which the VIP JEOUN has been registered.
"The brand VIP, is a registered trademark under the Trademark Act, so also is the logo JEPUN. The directors of VIP note several buses with transcription VIP, especially those that ply the Northern Regions highways. In as much as we intend pursuing the legal options to stop these illegal acts, we plead with the Ghana Police Service to come to our aid by checking every bus with the inscription VIP to ascertain if it's registered and belongs to the VIP fleet," he pleaded.
The overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ndan Yaa Naa Abukari (II) in a speech read on his behalf by the Nanton Naa Mahamadu (I) urged management of the company to be loyal and truthful in their service delivery.
He also urged road users to be circumspect in their usage of the road especially the festive season to avoid the occurrence of accidents.
The Nanton Naa also urged the Ghana Police Service to ensure that vehicles that ply the roads are in good shape to avoid accidents and frequent breakdowns.
"With some few days to Christmas, I want to appeal to road users to show respect in the use of the road, especially our drivers. Long distance drivers need to have spare drivers," he stated
Honourable Alhaji Saani Alhassan Shaibu, the Northern Regional Minister in his remarks while pledging the support of the government in transforming the transport sector, called on the VIP JEOUN transport services to make sure that the two drivers are assigned to each bus to avoid "tired driving."
He also urged them to have training and capacity building program for their drivers to constantly enhance their knowledge and skills in modern day driving.
The Managing Director for Cal Bank, Mr. Philip Owuredu on his part thanked the VIP JEOUN for partnering with the bank to roll out its digitization systems promising that the bank will ensure the successful execution of the online ticketing platform.
Northern Regional Director of the Motor Traffic And Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Mahmud Yussif on his part advised the general public to be watchful while on the road in order to minimize road accidents.
He also urged road users, especially commercial drivers to always obey the road traffic signs since they are meant to prevent accidents and to safeguard lives and properties.
The Tamale Bus Terminal will provide comfortable, easy and safe travel services to people within and outside Tamale.
It has a large and air condition space waiting room for customers, a car park and auxiliary offices to enhance service delivery to customers.
