Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has appealed for patience from supporters as Ghana continue their rebuilding process under head coach Carlos Queiroz following their exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana were knocked out in the Round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia on Saturday morning, ending their campaign at the first knockout stage.
Ayew admitted the disappointment of elimination but stressed that the team is still in transition under Queiroz, who only recently took charge.
"It's not good because we didn’t qualify," he admitted.
The former Leicester City forward argued that meaningful tactical change cannot be achieved in a short period, urging fans to allow time for the Portuguese coach to fully implement his ideas.
"Don't forget we have a new manager. He just came two months ago and is trying to install his style, and now people are adjusting. We don't just adjust within one month or two months. Football doesn't work like that. You have to accept it."
Despite the result, Ayew pointed to signs of progress, particularly in Ghana’s defensive structure.
"We came here; we did, you could see that defensively we were better," he said.
"You know, defensively we were better, but then we fell short a bit offensively. So we have to find the right balance now, you know, and it's all about work."
He expressed confidence in Queiroz’s experience and called for long-term backing as Ghana look ahead to future competitions.
"The manager needs time; he's a very good manager. You need to give him time for him to do his job and hopefully, hopefully things will be better."
Ghana’s defeat brings an end to their World Cup campaign after they progressed from Group L, finishing third, before exiting at the first knockout hurdle.
