A man has been arrested in Obuasi for allegedly posing as a military officer to extort money from people engaged in illegal mining activities.
The suspect, who is believed to be from Bogoso, is accused of impersonating a soldier and demanding money from illegal miners operating in the area.
According to reports, the alleged scheme unravelled after the miners became suspicious of his identity. They are said to have established that he was not a member of the military, apprehended him and handed him over to the authorities.
The incident has drawn attention because it involves allegations of two separate criminal offences. While the suspect is accused of impersonating a military officer and extorting money, the individuals who exposed him are also alleged to have been involved in illegal mining.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
