2026 World Cup: Black Stars arrive in Toronto ahead of opener against Panama

The Black Stars of Ghana have arrived in Toronto as preparations intensify for their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The senior national team landed in the Canadian city on Monday after departing their training base in Rhode Island. Ghana had been camped in the United States following their international friendly against Wales in Cardiff earlier this month.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical staff used the US-based camp to fine-tune tactics and improve fitness levels. All 26 players reportedly participated in full training sessions, with no injury concerns recorded ahead of the tournament.

The squad is expected to hold a mandatory training session at BMO Field on Tuesday evening before facing Panama in their Group L opener on Wednesday, June 17.

The match will mark the first-ever senior international meeting between Ghana and Panama.

Following the opener, Ghana will shift focus to a tougher test against England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, before wrapping up their group campaign against Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010, having exited at the group phase in both the 2014 and 2022 editions of the tournament.
