2026 World Cup: Thomas Partey’s visa denial will not break Black Stars' spirit – Kofi Adams

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed confidence that the Black Stars remain upbeat and focused despite Canada’s decision to deny Thomas Partey a visa ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup opener against Panama.

The decision, which has sparked debate, was linked to ongoing legal proceedings involving the midfielder in the United Kingdom.

Although Partey’s absence is seen as a major blow, Mr Adams insisted the team has the depth, quality, and mentality to cope with the setback and still deliver strong performances on the global stage.

Speaking on TV3, he said the mood within the Black Stars camp in Boston, United States, remains positive despite uncertainty over the availability of one of the squad’s key players.

He added that any attempt to disrupt the team’s preparations would only serve to strengthen their determination.

"I think the camp is really very, very positive," Mr Adams said.

"No matter which countries are teaming together to do what, attempting to stop Thomas from partaking in the first game or whatever, to whose advantage or whatever, we don't know. Ghana's Black Stars will rise. We will shine everywhere like the way we have always done," he stated.

"And you just wait and see what will happen come 17th, Wednesday," he added.

Ghana will open their Group L campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, before facing England at Gillette Stadium in Boston on June 23 and concluding their group fixtures against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.

Despite missing the opener, Partey remains eligible to feature in Ghana’s remaining group matches, all of which will be staged in the United States.
