Goalkeeper Paul Reverson eyes future Black Stars role despite 2026 World Cup snub

Promising Ghanaian goalkeeper Paul Reverson has expressed disappointment at missing out on Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while maintaining that his international breakthrough is only a matter of time.

The highly-rated Ajax shot-stopper was included in Ghana’s 28-man provisional squad for the tournament but failed to make the final selection.

Despite that setback, the 20-year-old says he remains focused on development and patient about his national team future.

"I wish I was in the Black Stars team for the World Cup, but now is not the time. I'm still very young," Reverson told 3Sports.

Reverson, who is currently playing for Jong Ajax in the Dutch Eerste Divisie, has steadily risen through the ranks of European football.

He previously featured in the youth setups of Zeeburgia and AFC before earning a move to Ajax Amsterdam.

Eligible to represent both Ghana and the Netherlands, the youngster committed his international future to Ghana.

He made his debut for the Black Stars U-20 side in 2025 and quickly progressed into senior team consideration, earning a first call-up for the friendly against Mexico in May.

His development has positioned him as one of Ghana’s long-term goalkeeping prospects as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. Their final group match will be against Croatia on June 27.
