Sports journalist Veronica Commey confirmed as Deputy Director General of NSA

Sports journalist, Veronica Commey has been appointed as a Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

Her appointment was confirmed by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, during the opening ceremony of a sports psychology training event at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Commey, a journalist and long-standing member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), will serve as one of two deputies to fellow journalist and current Acting Director General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

The other Deputy Director General is Gideon Hammond, a sports administrator.

She previously served as the Chief Sports Journalist at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and later ventured into freelancing, working with global sports organisations.

Her expertise has also extended to administrative roles, having served as Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) between 2015 and 2017.

Commey's wealth of experience includes serving as the Media Officer for Team Ghana during the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France in 2018.

The NSA has historically had two Deputy Director Generals—one overseeing the administration and the other heading the Technical Directorate.

However, it remains unclear which specific roles Commey and Hammond will be assigned in the current leadership structure.
