Owner and President of New Edubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu has shockingly revealed that his players have been engaging in betting.
The gambling issue in Ghanaian football has dominated the headlines in the past few days after McDan cited that the level of gambling in Ghanaian football is preventing him from investing in the game.
Reacting to the statement made by the business mogul, Salam Yakubu said his players have been engaging in the act of betting.
“I spoke with some of my players and all of them engage in betting. When they are on the field during matches, they have divided attention,” he said on Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show.
“When they finish a game and go into the dressing room, the first thing is that each player goes to their phones to check if the bets they have staked whether they’ve won or not.
“I spoke with the management and technical team and they told me this player can win 15,000 Ghana cedis and another 20,000 Ghana cedis.
“I spoke with my players to concentrate on the games and stop betting. I told them betting can kill their talents because of divided attention," he added.
On the final day of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, Heart of Lions scored a controversial penalty in stoppage time to draw 2-2 against Berekum Chelsea and avoid relegation. Hearts of Oak also came from behind to beat Bechem United 3-2 and secure their safety.
