The family of 29-year-old civil engineer Jeffrey Boakye Danquah is demanding justice following his alleged shooting death by a military officer.
Led by his sister, Gifty Serwaa, relatives of the deceased attended the Akropong District Court on Monday, where the accused, Private Nsarkoh Christopher Nkyinkyi, made his second court appearance.
Speaking to Joy News, the grieving family said they are hopeful the case will set an example for security personnel to exercise restraint and responsibility in the line of duty.
The court proceedings were emotionally charged, with police officers stepping in to calm agitated relatives who expressed anger toward the accused.
The incident reportedly occurred weeks ago at the Ghana Armed Forces Central Command Headquarters in Kumasi after a dispute between the soldier and the deceased escalated.
According to prosecutors, the confrontation turned violent, and the accused allegedly fired an M16 rifle at close range, hitting Danquah in the chest. The bullet is said to have exited through his back, resulting in his death.
The prosecution told the court that investigations are in their final stages but noted that military authorities have yet to produce the rifle allegedly used, despite a prior court order.
Presiding Judge Emmanuel Wiafe Adu ordered that Private Nkyinkyi remain in custody at the Central Command Headquarters in Kumasi until the next hearing.
ASP Jonas Newlove Adjei, Crime Officer at the Suntreso Police District Command and prosecutor in the case, said he was satisfied with the adjournment and expressed confidence that the ongoing investigations would establish the full facts and support the pursuit of justice.
The case has been adjourned to June 22, 2026.
