Ghana coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor has revealed that Mohammed Salisu is refusing to accept to play for the Black Stars.
The 21-year-old Real Valladolid centre back has emerged as one of the enterprising youngsters following his amazing season in the 2019/20 La Liga season.
Salisu featured 31 games for Valladolid, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.
The centre back was handed a debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe last year.
However, Salisu failed to honour the call-up under Coach Kwesi Appiah citing injury as an 'excuse' for his absence.
But according to Akonnor, who succeeded Kwesi Appiah says the Ghana FA made a contact to invite Salisu to represent the four-time Champions has been turned down by the player.
“Yes, we’ve tried to reach out to him [Salisu Mohammed] but we’ve been unsuccessful," Akonnor told Accra based Angel TV.
Following his exploits at Real Valladolid, Southampton have reached an agreement with the club to secure him on a four-year deal.
Manchester United, Rennes, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were all interested in the Ghanaian defender.

Doesn't he have a manager/agent, parents? cases of this nature must be handled wisely and out of media. Do you want the player to look unpatriotic and attack by soccer fans? GFA should be professional in handling this issue. That's why some of us prefer a foreign coach.
