The maiden edition of the FEM-START Startup Award has been held in Accra with a call on young women in Ghana to endeavour to venture into entrepreneurship.
Addressing businesswomen during the ceremony, the founder of FEM-START Africa, Marian Spier, said, the rationale behind the initiative is to stimulate female entrepreneurship in Ghana to attract more women to grow their businesses.
She said the organisation offers African women the opportunity to turn their dreams and ideas into successful companies.
Out of over 60 applications reviewed for the award, 10 were selected for the first round and subsequently, 3 finalists were chosen to pitch their ideas to a group of investors, entrepreneurs and a delegation from the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Accra.
Priscilla Amaabea Adams of N&A Organics emerged overall winner for the ultimate prize which includes a round trip and stay in the Netherlands, executive coaching for 6 months as well as the opportunity to present her business to some reputable Dutch investors and corporations.
