DEC 4, 2017 LISTEN

Mr Kwaku Tsikata, the Headmaster of the Half Assini Senior High School, has appealed to the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to provide a dormitory to accommodate the 896 resident girls of the school.

He said the girls were being accommodated in a 12-unit classroom block since their dormitory had developed deep cracks, making it a death trap.

Mr Tsikata made the appeal during the 13th Speech and Prize Giving Day and the Homecoming of old students of the school at Half Assini.

He said to avoid any disaster, management of the School had, since the beginning of last academic year, relocated all the 896 resident girls into a 12-unit classroom block.

This, he said, had created serious classroom accommodation deficit for the School and had compelled management to partition the School’s Assembly Hall into six classrooms, thereby making the School to conduct its morning activities in the open.

The School was established in 1960 under the Ghana Education Trust Schools and currently has 1,576 students, 65 teachers and 46 non-teaching staff.

It offers courses in General Arts, General Science, Business, Agricultural Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts.

Mr Tsikata commended Tullow Ghana Ltd for building a magnificent Assembly Hall for the School and praised the old students for taking up a project to construct a fence wall around the School.

He described the fence wall project as capital intensive and appealed to all old students to contribute to make it a success adding that some students and other public spirited individuals had donated bags of cement and cash towards it.

Mr Tsikata said the PTA was helping to convert an old uncompleted classroom block into a 12-unit residential apartment for the staff and that the first floor was almost ready for use.

He commended the PTA for providing water to the HASCO Community adding;” The school will forever be indebted to HASCO PTA”.

He said the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Paul Essien, was working around the clock to rehabilitate the girls’ dormitory.

Brigadier Albert K. Adu, who chaired the programme, urged the students to take their studies seriously.
