Former Deputy Rector of GIMPA, Professor John B.K Aheto has signed the book of condolence of his colleague Mr Albert P. Agbovi at the deceased residence in Kpetoe, Volta region.
The sad demised of Mr Albert P. Agbovi occurred at the Volta Regional Hospital after battling a short illness on Tuesday evening.
Professor Aheto speaking after he visited the family house to sign the book of condolence said he was there to express his regret and sadness for the passing away of Albert .P Agbovi.
“When you go back and you think about the 1960’s and 70’s and you talk about Ghana soccer. That was when Ghana was the Lord for the whole of African soccer. And for someone to rise to the level of a Class One referee and be judging the level of play in international matches was not easy. Mr Agbovi’s departure reminds me of the glorious days of our game. These are the people who contributed to that higher accomplishment we are enjoying today. We have lost a real gem; we have lost a Real son of the land Ghana and Africa. If nothing at all when it comes to football, he has taken his role in football to his private life and he has touched so many people. He has molded so many young ones and thus why we all very sad he has to go. May his soul rest in perfect peace” Professor Aheto said.
The late Agbovi after a flourishing refereeing career became the Chairman of the Referees Appointment Committee under the late Ben Koufie’s administration and also serve the current Gfa boss Kwesi Nyantakyi. He was a CAF Referees Instructor as well as a Match Commissioner for the confederation.
The Late Albert Agbovi died at age 75 and is the father of three-time Ghana’s best referee William Agbovi Jnr.
