A clear scene of melodrama unfolded On 23rd June 2015 (Tuesday), when members of the interview panel at the Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) caught a man who had been impersonating as a member of the institution.
The suspec is believed to have extorted monies from unsuspecting candidates coming for their interviews for an unknown period of time. The officials held him up for the police, who placed him under arrest.
The school got wind of the imposter on Tuesday, when they were interviewing applicants who want to be trained as nurses and midwifes.
One of the candidates whose name is currently withheld disclosed it to the panel at the point where the interviewing on going. The candidate told the panel that the suspect, a 31 to 35-year-old man, took 200 hundred Ghana cedis (Ghc200) to help her pass the interview.
After interrogating the candidate, the principal of the school notified its security team, who began combing the school grounds looking for the man. On Tuesday morning, they team up with some students to speak to the man on phone telling him they need help to be able to go to the interview or better still ignore if necessary. They followed him up till he arrived at the school, and once they saw him negotiate, they detained him and called the police.
The police apparently rushed in , as crime officer AnokyeAmaniampong of the Korle-bu station ordered that the case be given top priority, “due to the severity of the incident,” according to him.
Meanwhile, the principal of the Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC), Mrs Theresa Sagbefia has caution the general public especially those who have the zeal of becoming well trained in the nursing profession to approach the school secretariat and inquire what they need all by themselves.
We are bigger than 200GHS, all we look for is how the applicant think, analyse and give reasons to why he/she wants to be a nurse. – She added
