A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe has cautioned the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan to halt the creation of the 45 constituencies if he does not want his “fingers burnt”.
The outspoken NPP man stated that it is unwise for the EC to be creating constituencies with a little over three months to the general elections.
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho was addressing some party supporters in Tema West Constituency as part of the NPP flag bearer's “Hope Restore Tour”, Wednesday.
“The 45 constituencies that the Electoral Commissioner wants to put down our throat will never work.Nowhere in the world would you have three months to elections or even two to try and come out with such difficulties for the country", he said.
The former Ghana Ambassador to Serbia added that “if the EC Commissioner, Dr. Afari Gyan does not want to burn his fingers, then he should let this country be one. If does not want to burn his fingers, then he should think twice about these 45 constituencies he is trying to create.”
The creation of the 45 constituencies has received widespread condemnation from civil societies, religious bodies, political parties who have advised the EC to rethink its decision particularly as the country heads into a very crucial election in December.
Several legal suits have also been filed to contest the EC's decision to create the said constituencies ahead of the December 7 polls.
