Many Ghanaians can’t wait to vote NDC govt out over ‘Rambo-style’ arrests – Akim Swedru MP

The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has criticised the National Democratic Congress government over what he describes as “Rambo-style” arrests by state security agencies.

His comments follow the attempted arrest of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah by officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23.

EOCO has subsequently explained that the move was in connection with an ongoing investigation, saying the MP had previously been invited twice in February but did not honour the invitations.

Reacting to the incident in a social media post on Wednesday, Kennedy Osei Nyarko said the development would instead strengthen the Minority Caucus’ resolve to hold the government accountable.

He claimed that some Ghanaians he had spoken to are angry over such incidents and are looking forward to voting the government out.

“This will rather motivate us more to work hard to secure victory for the party come 2028. A few people I have spoken to are so angry to the extent that they can’t wait to come out in their numbers to send this government parking,” he said.

“We will not allow any planned intimidations to stop us from working hard and to secure victory for the party and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stressed.

Osei Nyarko, however, said he did not oppose the arrest of people suspected of breaking the law, but insisted that security agencies must act within the law.

“Nobody is saying don’t arrest people if they go foul of the law, but do it lawfully without drama and Rambo style,” he added.
