22 mortuaries in Ashanti Region operating without licences — MoFFA

The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has identified 22 out of approximately 56 mortuary facilities in the Ashanti Region as operating without the required licences.

Acting Director of MoFFA, Mavis Twumwaa Appiah, said the Agency was conducting inspections across the region to identify unlicensed facilities and mortuaries that were failing to meet the required standards.

According to her, the exercise involves assessing facilities against health, safety, environmental and operational requirements.

“As it stands, we have about 22 facilities that are unlicensed. We are going to each and every mortuary that is not licensed and does not meet standards. So, we go through this whole week,” she said in an interview with Joy News.

Ms Appiah said facilities found to be below the required standards would be prevented from accepting new bodies until the identified deficiencies had been addressed.

She explained that affected facilities would be expected to correct the issues identified during the inspections before MoFFA officials return to assess whether the necessary improvements had been made.

She further disclosed that some mortuary facilities in Asante Mampong, Effiduase and Juaben had already been shut down as part of the exercise.
