The Foundation for Youth Peace and Development (FYPD) welcomes condemnations of the recent call by the British Prime Minister for the rights of Homosexuals to be recognized in Ghana.

The foundation watched with delight as Ghanaians condemn in unison, the statement of David Cameron. This indeed is very significant, because it is a clear indication that where it matters the most, Ghanaians will stand for the National interest.

We wish to state however, that condemnation alone is not sufficient if as a people, we are serious about the protection of our cherished values so as to guarantee a morally sound society for the youth. As the matter stands now, opposition to the right of homosexuals in Ghana is limited to only individuals and groups in the country.

The state as a whole has not made its positions clear on the matter and so we cannot speak of a country that is free from homosexuality.

According to experts of the law, the 1992 constitution only makes partial statements about homosexuality.

The matter, however, is very simple. Per the values of our society; homosexuality is deviant behaviour and can therefore not be accepted by our laws. On the account of this, the FYPD wish to urge the good people of Ghana to give true meaning to their words on homosexuality by calling for legislations that will prohibit its practice in the country. The Foundation believes that, this is the best way of protecting our national values and providing hope for our children and generations yet to come.

I also thank the FYPD for calling on the state to declare her stand on this issue. We want the government to clearly understand that we shall never condone and conive with the western world on ...
