OforiI Panin Senior High School (OPASS) has launched its Golden Jubilee anniversary celebrations on the theme ' 50 years of Quality Education in Co-Educational Senior High School for National Development'.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, the acting Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Stephen Adu, said since its inception, OPASS had served the purpose for which it was established.
'It has transformed the lives of many people from within the Akyem State and lots of people from other parts of the country,' he said.
Notwithstanding, he noted that, 50 years of existence could not go without challenges such as lack of funding, equipment, dedication and hard work, which impeded academic work and the smooth management of the school.
Mr Adu, therefore, commended the parent teacher and old student associations, corporate bodies and individuals who had in diverse ways contributed to the success of the school.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kwaku Kyei-Brobbey, noted that, the school had been a centre of academic excellence and character moulding for students.
However, despite the successes chalked, the headmaster said the school was financially constraint and needed support to tackle numerous projects.
Among these, he said, were the expansion and renovation of the school's dining hall, assembly hall complex, regravelling of the school compound, construction of pavements and the painting of major buildings.
Mr Kyei-Brobbey, therefore, appealed to government, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), old students and all well wishers to come to the aid of the school.
Activities earmarked for the celebrations include a float through the principal streets of Kukurantumi, a clean up campaign, debates, singing competition among others.
