Bolgatanga, June 30, GNA – The Presiding Member of the Bongo District Assembly has appealed to Municipal and District Assemblies in the Upper East Region to come out with programmes that would market their assemblies.
Mr Alexis Ayamdor told the GNA in an interview that the Region abounded in natural resources including eco-tourism but is not marketed to attract investors.
“If the MDAs step up efforts at focusing more in marketing the potentials, it would not only help increase internally generated funds but also reduce the spate of rural urban migration in the area.”
He said the area had resources which, when properly marketed by the MDAs, could attract more investors.
Mr Ayamdor mentioned some of the potentials as mineral deposits, vast agriculture lands, the Paga Crocodile Pond, the Tongo Hills, rocks, the slave camps, pottery and artefacts.
“This will go a long way to help bridge the wide gap between the North and the South and efforts must be made by all the Assemblies in the Region so as to complement government's efforts at tackling the situation in the North”.
Mr Ayamdor stressed the need for all the MDAs to invest in the procurement of internet facilities since most of them had not procured them so as to promote and sell their potentials.
He said it was regrettable that most of the Information Communication Centres put up by the previous government in some of the Districts in the Region were virtually becoming non-functional since they were not installed with internet and other communication facilities and appealed to the Assemblies to take advantage of them by re-sourcing them.
