The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to initiate parliamentary processes aimed at removing Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from office over his handling of the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
The Member of Parliament for Damongo, Abu Jinapor, disclosed this while presenting the party’s petition to the Presidency following its “Yɛgyɛ Yɛ Sika” demonstration in Accra.
Speaking to Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim, who received the petition on behalf of the Presidency, Mr Jinapor accused the Foreign Affairs Minister of providing misleading information to the public about the evacuation exercise.
He said the NPP intended to use the appropriate parliamentary procedures to hold the minister accountable for his conduct.
The party has questioned the government's expenditure on the evacuation and is demanding full disclosure of the funds used in the exercise.
The announcement marks the NPP's intention to pursue the matter beyond street protests by taking its concerns to Parliament and seeking action against the minister.
