The Second National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of displaying weak leadership in the fight against corruption, illicit drug trafficking and illegal mining.
He claimed that the President's failure to take decisive action against government appointees facing allegations of wrongdoing was allowing corruption and other illegal activities to thrive.
Nana B made the remarks at the NPP Youth Wing's ‘Yɛ Gye Yɛ Sika’ demonstration in Accra on Tuesday, November 3.
“The President, I can say, is displaying weak leadership. He must be bold. He must be able to fire Okudzeto,” he said, referring to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Nana B accused the President of failing to take action against some government appointees despite allegations of corruption and misconduct involving their respective ministries.
He cited Mr Ablakwa over alleged irregularities in the expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa, as well as claims of improper issuance of diplomatic and service passports.
He also questioned why the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, remained in office despite what he described as a visa racketeering scandal at the ministry.
Nana B further accused the government of failing to tackle illegal mining and illicit drug trafficking.
“The President is pampering corruption. He is pampering, you know, illicit drug trafficking. He is pampering galamsey. The entire system is in a mess,” he added.
The demonstration, dubbed ‘Yɛ Gye Yɛ Sika’, was organised by the NPP Youth Wing to demand accountability over the government's expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.
