April 07, 2011 Accra, April 7, GNA - The Accra Community Centre Magistrate's Court Two on Thursday remanded in prison custody, Francis Adjiri, a 29-year-old hawker, for allegedly assaulting an Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) city guard.
Briefing the media, Mr Yaw Twumasi Ankrah, the AMA Prosecutor, said Adjiri, who pleaded guilty to the offence, has been charged with wilfully obstructing an AMA officer in the performance of official duty, and would appear in court again on 20th April 2011.
The prosecution said on Wednesday, April 6, Adjiri, who sold mobile phone accessories in front of New Times Corporation, near Circle in Accra, was asked by an AMA guard to remove his wares from where he had displayed them as the place was not designated for such purpose.
He said Adjiri became angry and refused to go by the instructions which caused the guard to attempt to forcibly remove the goods.
This, Mr Ankrah said, did not go down well with Adjiri, who assaulted the guard, leading to his arrest.
