The Vice President of FIDA International, Madam Ursula Owusu, has appealed to the Ghana Standards Board and the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) to name the 15 per cent sachet water producers whose water is safe for consumption.
This she said would help the public to make the right choices when patronizing sachet water for drinking.
A research by the Ghana Chemical Society (GCS) revealed that eighty-five per cent (85%) of sachet water - popularly known as 'pure water' and widely consumed by Ghanaians – does not meet the required safety standards for the health of consumers.
Fear abounds as cases of reported cholera outbreak escalates. The Ghana Health Service says they have recorded over 4,000 cases and 61 deaths.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo Wednesday, Madam Owusu said it was necessary that such information is provided so as to curb the spread of diseases especially through drinking water.
She underscored the need to protect the health of the citizenry, insisting that “they (FDB & Standards Board) should let the people know who the good sachet water producers are…”
