Two Christ the King SHS students injured in machete attack by suspected gang in Obuasi

Two students of Christ the King Senior High School (CTK SHS) in Obuasi are receiving medical treatment after they were attacked by a group of armed young men who reportedly stormed the school premises wielding cutlasses.

The incident occurred shortly after final-year students had completed their last paper in the ongoing examinations.

The attackers are suspected to be residents of the Tutuka, Akaporiso and Pomposo communities in the Obuasi Municipality.

According to the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Owusu Gyimah, preliminary information suggests that the attackers are linked to a group that includes some students of the school.

He explained that the group had on several occasions attempted to gain access to the campus to harass female students but had been prevented from doing so by members of the school's cadet corps.

Mr. Gyimah said tensions escalated after some student members of the group allegedly identified cadet leaders who had consistently blocked their attempts to enter the school, leading to the violent attack.

The headmaster expressed concern over the incident, describing it as a disturbing development that has left many students traumatised and fearful.

He called for enhanced security measures to protect both students and staff and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Police have since launched investigations into the attack and are working to identify and arrest those responsible.

Although no arrests have been made so far, some residents in the area have reportedly indicated that they can identify individuals who participated in the assault.

Following the incident, students and staff have appealed for stronger security presence on campus, including the deployment of permanent police personnel and the construction of a perimeter fence to improve safety and prevent unauthorised access to the school.

The two injured students are currently receiving treatment, while investigations into the incident continue.
