Ablekuma Central rolls out free health screening, NHIS registration for residents

The Ablekuma Central Health Directorate, under the Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly led by Hon. Frank Nkansah, will on Saturday, 20th June 2026, hold a free health screening and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration exercise for residents at the Laterbiokoshie Polyclinic.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s drive to expand access to primary healthcare and strengthen preventive health services at the community level.

Residents who attend the outreach will receive essential medical checks, including blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI assessments, as well as basic eye and dental examinations. NHIS officials will also be on-site to register new members, renew expired cards, and address concerns related to benefits and coverage.

Organisers say the dual approach is designed to eliminate the financial and logistical barriers that often prevent people from seeking early medical care.

Hon. Frank Nkansah noted that the programme aligns with the Assembly’s broader vision of building a municipality where every resident can access essential services without hardship.

For many households in Ablekuma Central, the cost of routine medical checks and NHIS renewal fees can delay treatment or force difficult choices. Free screenings help detect conditions such as hypertension and diabetes early, when treatment is more manageable and affordable. On‑the‑spot NHIS registration also expands coverage for vulnerable residents, ensuring they can access medication and hospital care without paying out of pocket.

In communities where time, transport and income constraints limit access to healthcare, bringing services directly to Laterbiokoshie significantly reduces these barriers.

The Health Directorate is urging all residents—especially the elderly, market women, artisans, and persons with limited mobility—to take advantage of the exercise. Community leaders and assembly members are expected to mobilise residents to ensure strong participation.
