Gbane-Gaare(UE), Jan. 19, GNA - Two Rotary Clubs from New York on Monday donated sixty-two dual desks valued at GH¢3,472 to the Gbane-Gaari Primary School in the Talensi-Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.
The clubs were the Water Town Rotary and Clayton Rotary Clubs of New York City in the United States of America, presenting the gift in collaboration with the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club.
Pupils of the School for the past years had been lying on their stomachs to learn and this was seriously hampering effective teaching and learning in the school.
Presenting the Dual Desks to the School, the President of the Bolgatanga Rotary Club, Pastor Emmanuel Atia, called on the management of the school to take good care of the items to prolong their lifespan.
Pastor Atia who is also Head Pastor of the Victory Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga, said it was sad that after 53 years of Independence, children still lay on the bare floor to study and called on politicians from the Northern sector to do more to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
He encouraged the children to take their studies seriously and to aspire to become great leaders in future to contribute to the development of the country.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Mrs. Vivian Anafo who was full of praise for the donors, appealed for more desks to assist other deprived schools in the area.
She called on other Non-Governmental Organizations to emulate the good example of the donors by also contributing to complement government's efforts at addressing the educational needs of the people.
On his part the District Director of Education, Mr. Francis Ayaaba, who also commended the organizations for their kind gesture said government alone could not address all the needs of education and reiterated that there was the need for Organizations and institutions to do more to help develop education.
He called on parents to make some sacrifices to take good care of their children's education since that was one of the profitable and better investments for the future, stressing that as parents they could benefit a lot if they took good care of their children's education.
He said government had provided a number of free school uniforms, exercise books and furniture to some deprived schools in the District.
