Ghana partners with intel to equip students with AI skills

Ghana has strengthened its efforts to prepare young people for an increasingly digital world with an agreement with Intel Corporation to expand artificial intelligence (AI) education in schools across the country.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the First Lady, H.E. Lordina Dramani Mahama, by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, at the “Fostering the Future Together” engagement in New York.

The engagement formed part of activities marking the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81), and it brought together First Spouses and private sector leaders from around the world to discuss ways of expanding opportunities for children through technology and education.

Under the agreement, Ghana will work with Intel, Coral Reef and the Ministry of Education to scale up the AI for Youth Programme and introduce responsible AI teaching and learning into K-12 classrooms across the country.

The partnership is expected to equip Ghanaian students with the knowledge and skills to understand and use artificial intelligence safely, responsibly, and effectively as technology continues to transform education and other aspects of young people's lives.

The global “Fostering the Future Together” initiative, convened by the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, focuses on ensuring that children have access to the knowledge and opportunities needed to learn, grow and thrive in a rapidly changing digital environment.

It also promotes the safe and responsible use of technology while drawing attention to emerging online risks facing children.

The New York engagement provided an opportunity for participating countries to share experiences and explore areas of collaboration, particularly in education, technology and the use of artificial intelligence.

The initiative brought together private sector partners, including Adobe, Amazon, Google, Intel, Starlink, Zoom and OpenAI, to support efforts aimed at creating greater opportunities for children.

Ghana’s participation also aligns with Lordina Dramani Mahama’s long-standing commitment to education, particularly girl-child education, through the Lordina Foundation, which supports opportunities for education and development of young people.

The collaboration with Intel forms part of broader efforts to expand digital opportunities across Africa and enable young people to acquire relevant skills for the future.

The “Fostering the Future” initiative was launched during the 80th United Nations General Assembly in September 2025 and has since grown into a global coalition involving First Spouses and equivalent representatives from countries around the world.

Ghana’s participation and signing of the Intel agreement underscore the country’s commitment to the education, protection and development of children and to ensuring young people are prepared to participate meaningfully in an increasingly digital world.
