A group identifying itself as the Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028 has petitioned the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Council of Elders, urging it to advise the party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, to resign over what it describes as decisions that undermine party unity and grassroots participation.

In the petition, dated July 11, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman and members of the Council of Elders, the group accused the General Secretary of adopting policies that are disconnected from the realities facing the party's grassroots supporters.

The petition centres on a circular issued by the Office of the General Secretary to regional representatives, regional officers and constituency elections committees ahead of the party's upcoming constituency executive elections.

According to the group, the circular instructed delegates that no transportation, food, drinks, snacks or even water would be provided during the elections, directing them instead to "Arrive. Vote. Leave."

The Alliance described the directive as insensitive, arguing that it places an unfair financial burden on more than 300,000 delegates, many of whom are polling station executives and electoral area coordinators from rural and economically disadvantaged communities.

The petition warned that requiring delegates to finance their own transport and welfare could result in low voter turnout, disenfranchisement and possible unrest, ultimately undermining the party's objective of conducting peaceful, transparent and credible internal elections.

The group also questioned what it described as an inconsistency between the party's claim of financial difficulties and allegations that the General Secretary had previously financed nomination fees for several aspirants during earlier internal contests.

It argued that if the party genuinely lacks resources, it is difficult to justify why delegates cannot even be provided with basic welfare items such as drinking water while individuals are reportedly able to sponsor aspirants.

According to the petitioners, the situation creates a perception of misplaced priorities and raises concerns about the party's leadership and financial management.

The group further cautioned that the decision could alienate the party's grassroots base at a time when unity and mobilisation are critical ahead of the 2028 general elections.

As part of its demands, the Alliance wants the Council of Elders to invite Mr Kodua Frimpong to explain the reasoning behind the directive and address the concerns raised regarding the party's financial position.

It also called on the National Executive Committee to review the decision and ensure that delegates receive at least a modest welfare package and drinking water during the elections to encourage participation and promote peaceful voting.

The petition further urged the Council of Elders to advise the General Secretary to step down if he is unable to restore confidence in his leadership and rebuild trust among the party's grassroots supporters.

The petition was signed by the group's convenor, Enoch Ayim, and copied to the NPP National Chairman, the National Executive Committee, the party's presidential candidate and former presidents.
